Tuesday Top Ten: Watch Dogs

August 31, 2010 · Print This Article

Most of these dogs are from the terrier group, and all but the Airedale and the Standard Schnauzer are small in stature, but big in personality.

Keep in mind that the watch dog is NOT a guard dog.  The difference is that a watch dog will warn you there’s a stranger around, but a guard dog will go take care of the problem.

Obviously, this means that watch dogs will typically be barkers.  If you live in a small apartment or have close neighbors, you’ll want to think twice before getting one of these breeds.

Without further ado, the top ten watch dog breeds are:

10. Chihuahua

9.  Boston Terrier

8.  Scottish Terrier

7.  West Highland White Terrier

6.  Shih Tzu

5.  Cairn Terrier

4.  Yorkshire Terrier

3.  Pomeranian

2.  Schnauzer (miniature or standard size)

1.  Airedale

Until next time,

Good day, and good dog!

Along with all the terriers listed for the top 10 guard dogs,Jack Russells should be included.I have a male and a female and they really love to let me know when someone approaches the driveway. They can hear a car coming long before I do!!
