Hurricane Sandy Update: It’s Raining Cats and Dogs in NYC
Anyone know where the expression “raining cats & dogs” came from? In the middle ages when they had thatch roofs, cats and dogs would make their beds on the roof of the house. When it rained, they often slid off into the street. Now you know!
On a more serious note, if you are impacted by Sandy and need help with your pets, check out this Facebook page.
Sending good thoughts & hugs to those on the East coast. Stay safe!

Trick or Treat
Saturday Survey: Dogs & Babies
We had my son’s girlfriend & her 2 kids over for dinner tonight. It was so much fun to watch Cooper, the Vizsla, try to play with her 19-month old daughter. She doesn’t have stairs at her house, so she had a great time crawling up and down ours. Cooper followed her up and down every time. I’m not sure if he was protecting her or just trying to keep track of whether she was getting close to his toys. The other dogs just pretty much ignored her.
I remember when my kids were little and my dad would babysit for me. We had one dog that would follow him from room to room when he was walking with the baby. She was sooooooo worried he would do something to my son!
So, I got to wondering – how do your dogs feel about babies?

Ohio County Shelter Euthanasia Rates
Wow! This article from the Columbus Dispatch is worth reading, even if you don’t live in Ohio. It compares euthanasia rates between shelters run by the dog wardens or sheriffs in each of Ohio’s counties. At the “good” end, only 1% of dogs are put down, while one county actually puts down over 80% of the dogs it takes in. That’s so disturbing!
