Canines versus Felines: How to Avoid Guerilla Warfare

Today, we welcome guest blogger Ron Rutherford to this space. The Dog Lady will be back tomorrow.

Where there is smoke, there is fire ladies and gentlemen. The old saying “fighting like cats and dogs” didn’t just show up out of nowhere. Although the saying may be tired, it definitely isn’t out of date. Dog versus cat. Cat versus dog. It’s the ultimate arch nemesis relationship even rivaling that of North and South Korea. If you happen to be the owner of a dog and the slave to a cat at the same time, it might seem like World War III is going to break out in your home at any minute. Book Review: A Pug With a Plan

From the book's Facebook page
My sister turned me on to this book after hearing about it on a Cincinnati radio station.

A Pug With a Plan by Janeen Coyle is a cute, true children’s story about how a family deals with the loss of their pet. Great for helping both kids and adults deal with the topic of grief.

Check it out if you find yourself struggling with that sad situation.

Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!

Saturday Survey: No Good Deed Goes Unpunished

Remember the man who wanted to get his dog out of the shelter, but couldn’t afford to do so? By the time funds were raised to take care of the fine and shelter fee, the man was nowhere to be found.
This story was big on Facebook. So big, in fact, that I wasn’t even sure it was a true story.

However, as this news piece shows, not only was it true, it also had a happy ending! The man and his dog, Buzz Lightyear, were recently reunited through the kindness of strangers.

The bad news came a day or so later, when the dog’s owner began berating the Good Samaritan to release the rest of the donated money directly to him. She is unwilling to do so because she feels he will spend it not on the dog but on his alleged drug habit. So, now he is threatening to sue her.

So, here’s our Saturday Survey: what should be done with the money?

Dog’s Micro-Chip Helps Family Identify Lost Son

Here’s a twist on why it’s a good idea to micro-chip your dog. In this video, the authorities used a dog’s micro-chip to identify a “John Doe” who had died of an overdose.

I was originally drawn to the video because the dog looks exactly like a huskier version of my Kayla. But in reviewing it, I think it has some relevance for all of us. Not that I’m wishing any of you or your relatives end up as John or Jane Does in a morgue, but I’d also hate for you to remain unidentified if you do end up there.

Good day, and good dog!

Hey Mister: Go Get Your Dog

Re-posting on the off-chance that this is actually true – you never know!
On Feb. 13, a dog, identified by only his given number, A441782, was taken to the San Bernardino, Calif., city animal control.

The dog was brought in by the local police as a stray, but he has an owner, and right now, the public’s assistance is needed to help identify that man, and to help get him back to the facility to claim his dog.
