If you have a small home or if you just like smaller dogs, you might want to choose from one of the breeds on this list. Small dogs are generally a little less expensive to care for because you will have to buy less food and smaller-sized accessories such as kennels, leashes, and toys. In addition, some of your veterinary care will be less expensive because you will be buying smaller doses of medication.
The down side of having a small dog is that they are sometimes a bit fragile. Allowing some of these small dogs to jump on and off furniture or playing roughly with them can easily cause back injury, particularly when they are puppies. Small children should be carefully supervised around small dogs.
With that said, here’s the list of The Dog Lady’s top ten small dog breeds. Most are in the toy group, but some are not.
10. Pug
9. Pomeranian
8. Cavalier King Charles Spaniel
7. Yorkshire Terrier
6. Cairn Terrier
5. Japanese Chin
4. Shetland Sheepdog
3. Pembroke Welsh Corgi
2. Schipperke
1. Miniature Schnauzer
Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!
Hi:
I have a Pembroke Welsh Corgi and a Chi and I have to keep her locked up
so that she won’t eat Pepe’s food.. Even without another dog I think the Corgi would eat until she got sick. Is this a character of the breed?
Thanks Allen
