I usually use this feature to highlight new songs about dogs, but I couldn’t resist including the quintessential dog song of all time, Patti Page singing “How Much is That Doggie in the Window”. I’m not sure I’ve ever listened to it all the way through, until I just found it on YouTube.
Nice video with it – does anyone know if the song was originally from a movie? I can’t imagine they were regularly making music videos back when this was recorded. Did you notice she stole the dog at the end?
Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!
Patti is my aunt. I have been collecting her memorabilia for 30 plus years now and I am very proud of her. This clip was from her “filmed” 1955 Patti Page Show sponsored by Oldsmobile. Patti and her manager Jack Rael, actually flew to California and spoke with Desi Arnaz and Lucy on how they would accomplish this task since their shows were all filmed before a live audience. They started filming in 1954 and released the shows through Screen Gems in 1955. Aunt Patti actually had her own TV shows from 1953-1959 on all three networks… The Music Hall, The Patti Page Show, The Big Record and The Patti Page Oldsmobile Show. Thank goodness the 1955 show was filmed, that is why the quality is so excellent! Actually her show would have been the first music videos ever shot…. some 30 years before MTV. HA!
I suspect this and the others like it are from TV variety show … Ed Sullivan, Andy Williams, Perry Como, Carol Burnett, Your Show of Shows, The Hit Parade, Jack Benny … the list of them in the 50;s & 60’s is quite lengthy.
