I got a big chuckle out of this last night – hope you do, too. Cooper, my Vizsla, usually sleeps under the covers with me. Last night for whatever reason, Penny, my Beagle, decided to wriggle under the covers when I went to bed.
Cooper was just fit to be tied. He jumped off the bed. (He had been curled up on top of the covers while I was getting ready for bed). He sat down because he knows he has to sit to get what he wants. He whined. He “talked”. He jumped back up on the bed and poked at Penny with his nose. Now he was getting really frustrated, he pawed at her and barked.
And Penny, my little ALWAYS submissive Penny, actually growled at him! I was so proud of her.
Now Cooper didn’t know what to do. He jumped back off of the bed, talked a bit more, turned around in circles, talked some more, then jumped back up on the bed. Finally, he came up and sat on my pillow for awhile, waiting and watching the little Beagle-sized lump under the covers.
Finally, just about the time I was drifting off to sleep, Penny decided she was hot and slinked off the bed. I think Cooper was actually smiling as he nosed his way under the covers to assume his rightful place.
Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!
2nd version:
Scramlet’s soliloquy. “A bed, a bed, my kingdom for a bed.”
We have an E. Setter who has “her” chair in the living room. If one of the cats gets on it and goes to sleep, she really doesn’t know where to go with herself.
Probably Penny was saying: It’s MY turn, but you never let me . . .
and anyway, we’re both Nr. 1 with Mummy!
