Peanut, a Sheltie from Jasper, IN was found last week frozen to the feces on the floor of his dog house. He and a few other dogs were rescued from this horrible situation and taken to the Dubois County Humane Society. After the video above appeared on the news, the shelter received offers of adoption from all over the country.
However, it ended up they didn’t have to look far from home to find a new home for Peanut. As reported on the Tristate Homepage, Carol and Keith Fitch fell in love with the dog even before they knew his story.
The Fitches had come to the shelter to adopt another dog, but knew as soon as they saw Peanut that he was the dog for them. Peanut is doing well and is expected to make a full recovery. His former owners have been charged with animal cruelty.
Good to know that the complaints of neighbors about these dogs left outside on this cold, cold night were answered swiftly. This isn’t the only case I heard about over the past two weeks. You can make a difference. Please keep advocating for dogs to be brought in during extremely cold weather. And if the owner won’t listen to you, don’t be afraid to get the authorities involved. This can very easily become a life or death situation.
Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!
