In a new addition to what the Washington Post calls the “canine-industrial complex”, Kim and Kevin Gilliam have recently opened a workout gym for dogs in suburban Washington, DC.
Featuring treadmills, a balance ball, and a full agility layout, Frolick Dogs Canine Sports Club charges canine members just $50 a month to work out as often as they like in air-conditioned comfort. I’m pretty sure this is cheaper than most dog daycares, but of course, they aren’t taking care of your animal – you stay with them at the gym. I’m assuming the humans get somewhat of a workout, too, as they put their dogs through a workout.
The 6,000 square foot facility is located in an old warehouse and has been open for a little over a month. Clientele include folks whose dogs don’t appreciate the summer heat and those who have reached an age where exercising a rambunctious dog is just too much. Others bring their dogs because they don’t have enough yard space or because they want their pets to have a wider variety of exercise options.
This may be an idea whose time has come. What do you think?
Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!
