Meet Patrick! This beautiful boy is living in Dolores, Colorado, compliments of Golden Retriever Rescue of the Rockies (GRRR). Here’s what they have to say about him:
Patrick was found as a stray in a neighboring state, and is about 7 years old. It seems Patrick has had very little positive life experience. He is just now learning the basics of life, love and joy as a Golden Retriever. Since joining the GRRR team he has been working on appropriate behavior and socialization with other dogs and consistent indoor manners. He’s been learning to walk on a loose leash and is making slow but steady progress. Patrick is a very happy boy and an enthusiastic tail wagger with lots of energy. He has seen the doctor and is current on his shots and is a healthy boy with one temporary exception . . .
Sadly, when Patrick arrived at GRRR and went to the veterinarian, he tested positive for heartworm. This is a very serious disease for dogs and optimally is easily prevented with simple medication. But for dogs like Patrick who did not have responsible owners, it can be treated very successfully. Of course, GRRR is anxious to get Patrick started on his treatment and will assume all of his expenses, but now Patrick needs to find an extra-special home where he can be kept quiet for about 6 weeks as he recovers. This could be a wonderful bonding time for new owner and new Golden but will also be a challenge to keep this active boy safe and sound. GRRR will also offer guidance during this period.
If you think you are the person who can turn Patrick’s life around and build a new forever life together while giving him the patience, love and direction he so deserves, please put Patrick’s name on your adoption application.
Patrick would prefer a home with no small children.
