Our deepest sympathies lie with the Toledo, Ohio Police Department on the death of their K-9, Officer Falko, who was killed in the line of duty.
Officer Samantha Snowberger was in pursuit of a suspect in the basement of a vacant house when she released Falko into the crawl space. The suspect fired on Falko, killing the 2-year old German Shepherd. The dog, trained in explosives detection was used for multiple purposes throughout his short career.
Born in the Czech Republic on March 29, 2013, Falko was trained at Von der Haus German Shepherds in Wapakoneta, Ohio. After a six-week training with his handler, Officer Snowberger, he graduated in September, 2014 and was placed on active duty with the department.
According to an article in the Toledo Blade, Falko had not yet been fitted for a bulletproof vest because he wasn’t fully grown.
The Blade also has a nice photo gallery from yesterday’s funeral. There was a large turnout of officers of both the 2-legged and 4-legged variety.
You can leave your sympathy messages on the Toledo Police Department’s Facebook page.
Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!
