I’ve had information on a couple of dog toys come into my email over the past week or so, and they both look really neat, so I wanted to share with you.
First, the GoBone. This is billed as the world’s first SmartBone, and is available now for pre-order. You can add treats to keep your dog interested, then simply turn the bone on when you leave the house. The bone moves around the house, similar to how a Roomba vacuum works. The bone dispenses treats as it rolls. The GoBone adjusts its behavior based on age, weight, breed, and play style to engage your dog longer and more often.
When you’re at home, you can link the bone to your phone wirelessly, to allow you to dictate movements and get involved in the action.
They’re doing a tie-in which allows you to donate a GoBone to shelter dogs when you buy yours, which I applaud wholeheartedly. Investors liked the idea, too, with the company’s Kickstarter campaign raising more than $185,000.
Although somewhat pricey, the cover of the bone is replaceable, so you don’t have to replace the expensive parts when your dog wears out or chews up the surface.
Next is the iFetch Frenzy, which shoots a tennis ball out of one of three holes in the base for your dog to chase. You must train your dog to bring the bone back to the unit and drop it in the hole on top, then he can chase to his heart’s content.
iFetch has a number of similar ball launching products available on their site, on Amazon, and in stores. The Frenzy is the cheapest at under $40, while the others cost over $100. Extra balls are also sold if you’re dog should happen to hide them in secret places!
I might just have to try one or both of these with my dogs!
Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!
Kwinten – I have not tested either. My dogs aren’t terribly interested in tennis balls to begin with, but I’d imagine a certain amount of training would be involved to get them to bring the balls back.
Hi Beth,
Nice article on two very cool new dog toys. I had heard of the Gobone before but not the iFetch Frenzy. And that one is really cool.
I love how they have created a very simple and effective toy. Because I have never seen a dog ignore a ball that suddenly rolled away from them:).
Have you tested the iFetch already? Because I am very curious if dogs will keep putting the ball in the top.
Have a great day,
Kwinten
