I came across an ad today for Dermapaw, an allergy relief medicine focused on soothing your dog’s itchy paws. I didn’t know until I clicked on the link that it was about allergies. My first thought was that it might be used for dogs whose paws were irritated by being outside during the winter.
This reminded me that it’s time for my annual reminder that road salt and other kinds of commonly used ice melters / sidewalk treatments can be irritating to your dog’s feet. Even though I was wrong about the product, I decided to give the reminder again anyway.
Those of you who are more dedicated to walking your dog than I am are no doubt still taking them outside in this frigid weather. For this, I commend you. My Penny won’t get walked again until the temperature is higher than my age.
If you are one of those freaks (chuckle) who likes to take your dog out in the cold and snow, you might think about investing in a set of dog booties to keep the chemicals off of your dog’s feet, and subsequently out of his or her mouth.
Here are a few of the products I found:
I hope this helps you pick out a great product to protect your dog’s feet this winter. I’ll be cheering you on from under my blanket on my couch. Please know, I ‘ll be out there with you in spirit!
Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!
There is also a product called”Mushers” for keeping dogs paws soft and protected during the winter months. I put it on my Retrievers feet before she goes for a walk. We both love it!!
