From The Daily Mail: When a young mother got to the end of her rope, she took her two young boys, aged 5 and 9, to the Murray River near Moama and tried to drown them. Although Buddy, a Pit Bull, was able to save the 9-year old, he bit him in the process of the rescue.
Tragically, the 5-year old perished.
Perhaps because Buddy is a Pit Bull or maybe for a thousand other reasons, Murray River Council Rangers detained the dog. A petition was then started on GoPetition, asking that authorities treat the dog as the hero he was, rather than as a danger, and officials agreed after more than 45,000 signatures were collected.
“Buddy the dog has reacted and attempted to save the boys; in doing so he has bit the eldest boy in his rescue attempts. Unfortunately, he was unable to save the youngest boy and has also bit the mother,’ the dog’s owners wrote on the petition. “Buddy is a member of our family and has grown up around children his whole life and has been the most gentlest dog. He has clearly seen a child in distress and attempted to help.”
The dog has since been chipped and authorities are working with the family to get Buddy registered so he can be returned to them.
Way to go, Buddy!
Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!
