Good advice. When you leave your dog’s waste out, it can sink into the sewer system, putting a strain on wastewater treatment facilities. Not something you really want to think about, right?
According to Tallahassee’s Think About Personal Pollution campaign, dogs have an especially large number of intestinal bacteria to digest [a] wide variety of food, about 23 million bacteria per gram of waste.
And the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District puts it this way: Due to dogs’ high-protein diets, their waste is highly acidic. It is not a fertilizer and can contain 10 times as much fecal coliform bacteria as cow manure, and also a whole lot of nasty stuff like e. coli, salmonella, and giardia.
So, do the downward dog, and pick up your dog’s poop!
Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!
