We all know October is breast cancer awareness month. If you forget, just watch an NFL game and see all the pink accessories the players wear. But did you know October is also Domestic Violence Awareness Month?
OK, Dog Lady, point taken, but what does this have to do with dogs? Here’s the thing: 48% of battered women stay with their abuser because they fear what will happen to their pet(s) if they leave. And only 3% of domestic violence shelters allow residents to bring their pets.
The American Kennel Club Humane Fund gives grants to women’s shelters to allow them to find ways to keep both victims of domestic violence and their pets safe from an abuser.
Please give generously. No woman should have to choose between her dog and her personal safety.
Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!
