Meet Jerry! This good boy was rescued from a kill shelter in Texas. Here’s what his rescuers have to say about him:When JERRY arrived at the rescue in Sebec, Maine on 15th January 2021 he was very shy and fearful. When in his kennel he would give a warning growl, letting me know he was unsure and uncomfortable at which I respected and left him alone for a while so that he could get settled. I found that when Jerry feels he is cornered he will let you know by growling and when I back off and get to his level he gets more relaxed and will come up to smell and get his ears scratched. When cleaning his kennel I would make sure he was inside before I cleaned outside as this is where he felt the most threatened and trapped. After a few days he and his kennel neighbour had gotten into each others kennel and were sharing the elevated dog bed and his demeanor instantly changed, him obviously gaining confidence through the happy-go-lucky Sophie.
After a few days Sophie was adopted and Jerry had to get used to being in the kennel on his own, his affection for me was great, there was no more fear and he was becoming very attached. Jerry had a meet and great with a GSD experienced family, but when I took him out to meet them, he again became very fearful and only wanted to be near me. After a few minutes we decided that putting him back in the kennel and spending time with him through the gate might help, however, it just seemed to escalate his fear and his fearful growling, turned into barking and we both agreed that he was not ready for his new home yet – more so with the family having a small child and not being able to dedicate and commit to the training and work he will need. I recently switched from K9 Advantix to Bravecto because the Bravecto is required to keep my Checkers’ mange under control. I’ve been happy with both as far as fleas and ticks.
From The Dog Lady’s mailbag: The American Kennel Club (AKC) is excited to announce that the AKC National Agility Championship will air on ESPN2. The two-hour competition will be televised on Wednesday, March 31,2021 at 8 p.m. ET/ 5 p.m. PT. This broadcast comes on the heels of the three-year agreement the AKC and ESPN signed at the top of the year to give viewers a taste of the competitive world of dog sports.
This year’s AKC National Agility Championship will take place on March 26-March 28, 2021 at the Built Ford Tough Livestock Complex at Expo Square in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The expo is an indoor, climate-controlled horse arena on dirt and has multiple rings set up for competition. Raja Krishnamoorthi, the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Economic and Consumer Policy, sent letters to Elanco Animal Health Inc. and Bayer U.S. LLC seeking documents and information regarding the Seresto flea and tick collars, following reports that the collars may have killed thousands of pets and caused injuries to many more pets as well as humans.
Meet Forest! This handsome boy is currently being treated for heartworm. Here’s what his rescuers have to say about him:Forest is a super precious pup who just loves to have fun! He’s a 2 year old, 50 pound bundle of love. He loves belly rubs and is super-duper friendly!! He could play all day long chasing a ball or fetching a stick. He loves other dogs, kids, and pretty much all humans. Sweet Forest was rescued as an abandoned dog and is so thankful to have humans to take care of him, but what he really wants is his very own family. This precious boy deserves his very own yard to play in & his very own people. Won’t you be his forever family to love him and let him be your faithful and loyal boy pup? He will add so much joy to some very lucky family!
