My dog’s English skills
You know, The Dog Whisperer has made an entire living off the concept that dogs and humans need an interpreter. Turns out my dog, at least, understands good old-fashioned English.
Dog-Lover = Car-Buyer???
Honda has decided that a key demographic of potential car buyers in Japan is that they love dogs! (Of course, who doesn’t?) In fact, the Japanese have more dogs and cats than they do children under the age of 15. As a result, Honda has begun designing cars specifically to be canine-friendly and even has a website devoted to the initiative: honda.co.jp/dog/. (It’s in Japanese, but you can look at the pictures.)
A Short Nod to our Cat Friends
Remember! June is Adopt a Shelter Cat month. (Of course, it’s also national celibacy month, so take this with a grain of salt!)
Check out the felines the next time you visit your local shelter, and see if you can find the perfect one for your home!

Kayla picked up a tick during her little outing last weekend, so I had the opportunity to do a little research this morning on tick removal.
Superbugs
The SFGate, online home of the San Francisco Chronicle, reports a rise in the number of infections caused by staph germs that are resistant to common antibiotics. This has been reported for a number of years in humans, often following a hospital stay, but it is new news in the pet world.
My Little Runaway
As faithful readers know, I live with four dogs: Kayla, Cooper, Penny, and Maggie. The other day, for about the umpteenth time, my kids let the dogs out of the garage door (which incidentally, does not lead to the fenced-in yard).
11-year old student reviews “A Dog’s Life: Autobiography of a Stray”
From NPR: Fifth-graders at Isaac Dickson Elementary School in Asheville, NC wrote about the imaginary personalities they most admire. They then recorded their stories at WCQS, the local public radio station. One student, Mark Federman, chose the dog Squirrel from “A Dog’s Life” because he felt a special bond with the dog.
