2016 AKC National Championships Initial Impressions

Wow! These are the first pictures from this morning. We are at the Orlando Convention Center, and the venue is HUGE! (Or YUGE if you’re a Donald Trump fan.) We even saw this cute little Pom practicing his show prance in the hotel parking lot this morning.

Breeds You Don’t See Everyday

Last week, I featured the new breeds being shown at this week’s AKC National Championship presented by Royal Canin. There are also dogs being shown who have not yet been placed in one of the traditional seven breed groups (Toy, Terrier, Working, Sporting, Non-Sporting, Herding, and Hound). New AKC Breed: The Sloughi

In preparation for next week’s big National Dog Championships, I’m spending a little time learning about the new breeds recognized by the AKC this year. First up: the Sloughi!

According to the American Sloughi Association, the Sloughi is a rare breed of Arabian sighthound from the north African countries of Morocco, Tunisia, Libya and Algeria. It is also known as the Arabian Greyhound. Continue reading New AKC Breed: The Sloughi

Seriously, Montreal? A Pit Bull Ban? Say It Ain’t So!

I thought we had progressed beyond breed specific legislation, but a major metropolis in Canada – Montreal – has just passed a pit bull ban.
