New York, NY- The American Kennel Club is happy to announce the winner of the 1st ever AKC Virtual Top Dog Challenge. The inaugural event garnered 689 entries. GCHP CH Carmel Sky High Wish Upon a Star, a Miniature Schnauzer known as “Twink,” was awarded Best in Show by AKC Judge and Board Member Mr. Harold Tatro III of Texas. “Twink” is owned by Jorge and Susie Olivera. Best Puppy was awarded to Alletare Royal Neuma, a Doberman Pinscher known as “Neuma,” also judged by Mr. Tatro. “Neuma” is owned by Angela Ferrari.
Dogs were judged in one of two classes, Puppy (6-12 months) or Open Class (12 months and older) of their breed and sex. Champions of record were also eligible and encouraged to enter in the appropriate class. Entries were judged by selected dog people with expertise in their respective breeds. Group judges were: Pat Laurans (Sporting), Tim Catterson (Hound), Bill Shelton (Working), Bruce Schwartz (Terrier), Sandra Bingham-Porter (Toy), Patty Sosa (Non-Sporting), Sam Houston McDonald (Herding), and Dr. J Charles Garvin (Miscellaneous). AKC Canine Partners™ was developed to welcome mixed-breed dogs and their owners to the AKC Family. It promotes the strengthening of the human-canine bond by encouraging training, responsible dog ownership and pet owner education. And for the past ten years, the program has done exactly that and more!
Since its launch in 2010, AKC Canine Partners™ has had a steady and consistent rise in enrollment every year. As of June 2020, the total number of enrollments is over 420,000, with 85,000 enrollments in 2019 alone. I missed the broadcast, but NBCSports is reporting that Nick, the Siberian Husky, took Best in Show honors at the 2020 Beverly Hills Dog Show.

Dogs in the UK are being taught to identify possible carriers of the coronavirus by the odor given off by the virus particles. Could be a great advancement in the US since we cannot get the test kits fast enough.
