The responsibility of a service dog never ends. This is Sully, President George H.W. Bush’s service dog. Sully came to the President from America’s Vet Dogs and assisted Bush in recent months, after he lost Barbara and was confined to a wheelchair.
This photo was taken at the funeral home in Houston the night before the casket was transported to Washington to lie in state in the Capitol. It was first published on Twitter with the caption “Mission Complete #Remembering41.”
America’s Vet Dogs will take Sully back for some retraining, then will place him in the dog program at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, where he will assist wounded soldiers and active-duty personnel.
This is from a few years ago, but I just found it. As a former foster parent and current adoptive parent, I think helping traumatized children is a great way to put a dog to work.
Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!
We often recommend keeping your dog mentally stimulated during the day if you are away from home. It keeps the dog from engaging in boredom behaviors like chewing, digging, and excessive barking. Here’s an innovative idea to make him or her think about where the next meal is coming from.
Put a few pieces of kibble or treats in some, but not all, of the sections of a muffin tin, then cover every section with a tennis ball. The dog must remove the balls to find the food. S/he can then play with the balls after eating.
Also good for dogs who eat too fast.
Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!

The event featured a costume contest, photo booth, canine food drive, an interactive trick dog show presented by Dare Devil Dogs, fun walk, pet market, adoptable animals from local shelters and rescues, and even a performance by the Duke University Wind Symphony and the Durham Community Concert Band!
Annette says the parks there are big on dog recreation. They just opened a 4th dog park funded by a grant from PetSafe to the Durham Parks Foundation.
