And the broadcast has begun. Hosted by the Kennel Club of Philadelphia, emceed by David Frei and John O’Hurley, and sponsored by Purina, the 2017 National Dog Show broadcast has begun on NBC.
If you can’t tune in on TV, check back here often for updates when each group winner is announced, as well as for the Best in Show winner.
It must be “write about dog shows” day. Just after my earlier post, I received this in my in-box from the American Kennel Club.
We are excited to announce that in its 17th year, the AKC National Championship presented by Royal Canin has again drawn the largest entry in the history of the event! Dogs from 50 States and 44 Countries will compete for Best in Show this December. 4,803 dogs are entered this year with more than 1,200 puppies entered to compete in the all-new inaugural AKC/Royal Canin National All-Breed Puppy and Junior Stakes.
I attended this show last year and had a wonderful time. It’s neat to immerse yourself in an all dog all the time kind of world for a weekend.

The big National Dog Show will be broadcast, as always, right after the Macy’s Parade on Thanksgiving. If your television will be stubbornly stuck on football all day, check in here. Since my family celebrated early this year, I’ll be able to watch the show beginning to end and will bring you all the highlights live. (Or as live as I can do for a taped television show!)
