I posted earlier in the week about a new cable channel made especially for your dog’s entertainment. What do you think? Is this something you’d consider buying?

Dog Charity Events
I took my son to the library this morning, and made the mistake of taking Kayla and Cooper along for the ride. I forgot today was the day the park district (which shares the building with the library) was hosting the Caring Tails on Stark Trails charity dog walk and doggie dress-up contest. You guessed it, my dogs went nuts the entire time we were waiting outside for Billy.

TV for your dog?
Have you checked out the new Dog TV channel? It’s made just to keep your dog entertained while you’re away at work or whatever.
The audio on the interview segments isn’t great, but from what I gathered, the channel is designed to reduce separation anxiety, hopefully well enough to keep your dog from howling or destroying your stuff.
Currently available only in San Diego, they are hoping to expand nationwide, as well as to other countries. The current pay-channel price is around $5 a month. There is also a video feed you can pick up online for a $9.99 fee.
Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!

Great Dane Mozart Paints for Charity
Mozart, a Harlequin Great Dane purchased at an auction in Ohio, was very soon abandoned by his owner, presumably after they realized how large Great Danes grow to be. He is now living in foster car with Harlequin Haven Great Dane Rescue in Bethel, Ohio. What makes him different than any other rescue dog? He’s a painter! (Pretty funny for a dog named after one of the greats in the music world.)

2012 Iditarod: Picture from the Finish Line
Not sure who looks happier – the dogs or 2012 Iditarod Champ Dallas Seavey.
2012 Iditarod: And we have a winner!
Congratulations to Dallas Seavey, the youngest musher to have ever won the Iditarod, who passed under the burled arch in Nome just before 7:30 last night. Alliy Zirkle came in second, about an hour behind Seavey, followed by Ramey Smyth, Aaron Burmeister, Peter Kaiser, and Ray Redington, Jr. The Red Lantern remains lit for the remaining 47 competitors.

2012 Iditarod Standings as of 9:52 AM on 3/13/12
They’re having a heat wave in Alaska today. It’s all the way up to minus two degrees in Koyuk.
Race leaders Dallas Seavey and Alliy Zirkle have left White Mountain after completing their final required 8-hour rest period. The remainder of the top five are in at White Mountain: Ramey Smyth arrived at 2:17 am, Aaron Burmeister at 3:50 am, and Peter Kaiser at 6:55 am, so apparently all have chosen this rest stop as their 8-hour layover.

The Iditarod Humans
As I’m following the Iditarod this year, what strikes me most is the wide diversity in the mushers. I know I’m supposed to be writing about dogs, but have you taken a look at the field of humans?
