Can You Break In to Take a Dog Out of a Hot Car?
From the Animal Legal Defense Fund:
Only 12 states — Arizona, California, Colorado, Indiana, Kansas, Massachusetts, Wisconsin, Florida, Ohio, Vermont, Oregon and Tennessee — allow “good Samaritans” to break a car window to save an animal.

Huge shout-out to those who have dedicated their lives to making life better for our furry (and feathered and scaly) friends. Especially those of you committed to keeping your prices low or offering low-cost spay/neuter clinics to those of us who have more animals than money or sense! (Says the lady with five cats, a dog, and heading out this afternoon to pick up three orphan kittens for bottle-feeding.)

Do You Live Near Greeneville, Tennessee?
NewsChannel 11 is spreading the word about the Greene County, Tennessee animal shelter, which is up to its ears in dogs. A county resident died recently, leaving behind 60 dogs in need of foster and / or adoptive placements. The shelter is also looking for donations of cash, food, and other supplies.

Chicago Honors K-9 Force
Will you be anywhere near The Windy City this summer? The Chicago Tribune reports The Chicago Police Memorial Foundation is backing a public art initiative called K-9s for Cops to bring 200 German shepherd statues to the Magnificent Mile and other locations from July 23rd to Labor Day.
The 54-inch statues will be made of fiberglass, designed and painted by local artists in collaboration with sponsors. After Labor Day, the statues will be auctioned off to benefit both the memorial foundation and PAWS Chicago, where the money will be used for a spay / neuter initiative. A similar project featuring Horses of Honor several years ago netted $480,000.

The Power of Facebook
Sharing a story today from the small town of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, which points out the power of Facebook.
A random Good Samaritan named Kelly Gray posted on her Facebook page that three dogs were left outside in the extreme cold we’ve been experiencing here in Ohio: The dogs in the Kirby puppy mill are freezing with no water and no one takes action! Who can help!! She also uploaded a few pictures and a video of the cold Beagles. The post was shared over 6700 times, prompting action from the Wyandot County Sheriff and Humane Society.
