This started out as a plea for help for Mex, the dog featured in this video, but it’s turned into a much broader request for all retired military dogs.

No Pet Store Puppies Day
This Sunday, July 21st is “No Pet Store Puppies Day,” the third year of the ASPCA’s campaign to fight puppy mills. In honor of this day, they have just launched a new video called “Meet Molly” which features young Molly with her dog Joey explaining how puppy mills are bad and why to avoid pet stores that sell puppies.

Saturday Survey: Where do you stand on spaying / neutering dogs?
Most animal welfare professionals advocate spaying and neutering ALL dogs as soon as you bring them into your home. The reasons they cite include curbing overpopulation, lowering shelter occupancy, and improving the health of the animal by lowering cancer risk.

How Hot Does It Get In a Parked Car?

Check out his video and share it with your dog loving friends.

Attn: Animal Rescues!
I try to feature a dog who needs a forever home every Sunday in our Shelter Sunday feature, but this is the first time I have asked shelters to consider taking in more animals. It seems a rescue organization in San Bernardino County, CA got in over its head, and now the county’s animal shelter in Devore has taken in 130 dogs. This is stretching the shelter awfully thin, and these dogs are not yet ready to be adopted in family homes. They are skittish and run from people.
Check out the full story in the Daily Bulletin.
If you run a shelter and can take some of these dogs, call San Bernardino County’s animal shelter in Devore at 909-386-9820.

Go Chief Oliver – You Rock!
Another rant from Chief Oliver of the Brimfield Police Department. You can see why his tiny little police force is the 4th highest ranked in Facebook friends in the country. (Behind other little burgs like NYC.)
He doesn’t always talk about dogs, but he always shoots from the hip.
