You know how they put missing children on milk cartons to increase the chances they will be found? Well Marika Meeks, founder of Incredibull Stella Rescue, thought it would be cool if rescue dogs had more exposure, too. According to a story on WKYC.com, she has partnered with her local Papa John’s franchisee to put adoptable dogs on pizza boxes throughout the Scottsdale, AZ valley.
Bubba, the first pizza box dog, was adopted within two weeks of his premiere.
What a great idea!
Until next time,

Normally, you would go to the Facebook page of a flooring contractor to see the projects he’s worked on (which are spectacular, by the way), but in the case of Stairfaces and Josephsen Hardwood Floors, you’d be forgiven if you just went to the page to see his employees of the week. You see, he takes pictures of the dogs who live in the homes where he works, and publishes them with a short bio of why they are the best employees he’s seen that week. From the National Mutt Day website: National Mutt Day, also known as National Mixed Breed Dog Day, was created in 2005 by Celebrity Pet & Family Lifestyle Expert and Animal Welfare Advocate, Colleen Paige and is celebrated on both July 31st and December 2nd. National Mutt Day is all about embracing, saving and celebrating mixed breed dogs. The biggest percentage of dogs abandoned and euthanized is due to the constant over-breeding and public desire of designer dogs and pure bred puppies that are sold to pet stores supplied by puppy mills that often produce ill and horribly neglected animals. From The Dog Lady’s Mailbag: AKC Reunite, the nation’s largest non-profit pet identification and recovery service provider, has announced that it will infuse $200,000 more in funds to complement money raised by AKC clubs throughout the country for the AKC Pet Disaster Relief program.
AKC Pet Disaster Relief, a national program that is dedicated to keeping pets and their owners safe in response to natural or civil disasters, joins forces with local American Kennel Club dog clubs and dog lovers to present emergency Pet Disaster Relief trailers to counties throughout the country. As you might have noticed, poverty has been on my mind this week. In a recent post, the Talk Poverty blog points out that poverty is one of the biggest reasons why pet families have to surrender their animals to shelters.

Kudos to Lifecare Alliance Senior Petcare program, which gives free pet food and veterinary care to owners in need. The Petcare program arose when human food deliverers were noticing the remains of their meals littering the area around pet food bowls. They recognized that seniors need pets for quality of life, as well as for to enhance longevity.
While Lifecare Alliance takes care of the food, the Veterinary Program at The Ohio State University provides care.
Sounds like a great partnership!
Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!
Desmond Tutu has been quoted as saying, “There comes a point where we need to stop just pulling people out of the river. We need to go upstream and find out why they’re falling in.”
Downtown Dog Rescue in Los Angeles has done just that, opening a Pet Resource Center in a low income area to address the reasons why the poor surrender their dogs to shelters at such a high rate. Continue reading Low Income Pet Resource Center in Los Angeles
As part of their “Subaru Loves Pets” campaign, the auto-maker has had October 22nd designated as Make a Dog’s Day, the focus being on adopting an underdog – one who is disabled or older – from a shelter. Continue reading Make a Dog’s Day is October 22nd!
Pet overpopulation is real! If you’re not a breeder, there’s no reason to have an intact dog, and in fact, it is healthier for the dog to be spayed or neutered. If you can’t afford it, watch online forums for free or low cost clinics in your area, or ask at your local shelter where you can have it done.
Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!
