The world seems just a little less bright today. We lost one of the good guys.

I just returned from the ER vet, where everyone is still pretty shell-shocked. When I saw Jethro last night, his breathing was very labored. It was apparent he was fighting as hard as he could. By this morning, he was so tired, he could no longer fight. He fell asleep and stopped breathing. Our prayers go out to Officer Ryan Davis and his family, as well as to the whole Canton PD and Police K-9 Association.

Ryan is in awe of the support he and Jethro have received. The waiting room at the vet is full of officers and their families, all who have come to show their support to the Davis family.

Even though we have surpassed our original goal, we will continue to take memorial donations on GoFundMe. I will be meeting with Canton PD and the Police K-9 Association soon to decide on the most effective way to use your more than generous donations. I’ll keep you posted both here, and on Go Fund Me.

I’ll post funeral arrangements when they become known.

Rest in peace, Jethro. You did a good job. Others will stand the watch from here.

Until next time,
Good day, and good dog

Saturday PM Update on Jethro

Family members visit with Jethro in his palatial kennel at the vet clinic Saturday evening (9 Jan 16)

I went back to the Stark County Veterinary Emergency Clinic this evening to check on Jethro and his partner, Officer Ryan Davis. Ryan is wiped out – he’s been up for about 36 hours straight. His son was going to stay at the clinic with Jethro while Ryan’s wife takes him home, at least long enough for a shower, but I’m hoping he’ll also be able to get some sleep.

I visited with Canton City PD’s K-9 Trainer Eric Stanbro this morning while he was sitting in vigil for K-9 Officer Jethro, who had been shot early this morning in the line of duty. He was able to give me a little history about the now 3-year old German Shepherd, and I wanted to share it with you.

Update on Canton K-9 Jethro, Shot in the Line of Duty

IMAG0245I’ve just returned from the Stark County Veterinary Emergency Clinic, where the lobby is filled with police officers from the city of Canton, Stark County and beyond. From this filled-to-almost-capacity parking lot, you might suspect that the Clinic is over-run with patients, but for the hour that I was there, it seemed there was only one: Canton Police Department’s K-9, Jethro. Jethro is a 3-year old German Shepherd who was shot by a burglar early this morning. Officers have been coming and going throughout the night since the 1:30 am shooting, and the community has responded with food and coffee for the officers, as well as a balloon bouquet from a group of small children.

Toy Poodles Rescued from Hoarder

HARTYesterday HART was able to help FIFTEEN more toy poodles out of the hoarding situation they’ve been trying to alleviate throughout the past several months. Most of the dogs are very timid and unsure of their surroundings right now, and will take some time to warm up to people.

The dogs are still adjusting to the incredible turn their lives have taken. They’re at the vet’s office receiving their vaccines, being fixed, and groomed (most had terrible mats that needed shaved).

HART is planning on having the ones who aren’t as timid at their ADOPTION EVENT this Saturday at the South Lebanon Petsmart from 12-3pm. If you’re interested in one of these little guys, you can fill out an online adoption application.

Kudos to Homeless Animal Rescue Team of Cincinnati for taking in these poor dogs.

Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!
