Saturday Survey: GoDaddy’s Super Bowl Puppy Ad

I think GoDaddy was going for edgy when they put together this year’s Super Bowl ad, but I’ve heard others say the ad was meant to be satire, based on the success of Budweiser’s puppy ads. Either way, I’m glad they’ve decided to pull it. There was such a groundswell of emotion touched off by the commercial that the company decided they couldn’t air it during the big game.

The part that was most disturbing to me was not the punch line, however. It was the puppy being bounced out of the pick-up truck in the first place. Dogs, especially puppies, should never ride in the back of a truck!

What was your opinion of the ad?

Puppy Ad Pulled from Super Bowl

Just heard that GoDaddy has pulled its controversial ad from the Super Bowl after a huge negative response. The ad was previewed on The Today Show, where the hosts expressed their horror. Then a Change.org petition was started, which drew over 42,000 responses. I’m pretty sure GoDaddy is getting more FREE publicity over this gaffe than they would have from simply airing the commercial during the game.

Gracie’s Guardians Loses Its Namesake

GracieWhen Michael Vick’s dog-fighting ring was busted in 2007, fifty pit bulls needed to be rehabilitated and rehomed. One of them, a bowl-legged black dog named Gracie, ended up living with Sharon Cornett, president of the Richmond Animal League’s no-kill shelter. The Animal League then began a program known as Gracie’s Guardians, focused on improving the welfare of pit bulls in the greater Richmond area.

WCBD-TV: News, Weather, and Sports for Charleston, SC

When Dara, a 6-month old hound mix, was shot seven times and left for dead, she crawled under a house in Hollywood, SC to lick her wounds.

She was found by authorities and taken to a veterinarian, but the cost of her care was likely to be high.

Enter Vincent Bertolini, a Vietnam Vet who remembers how scary it is to be injured and alone. He donated $1,000 to pay for her care, and was recently introduced to the puppy he helped to save. The video above, from Channel 2 in Charleston, tells the sweet story.

Study Shows Link between Lack of Playtime and Problem Behaviors

shutterstock_228734482The UK’s Daily Mail is reporting on a study out of Bristol University that involved over 4,000 dogs and their families. They asked how often people play with their dogs and found that about 20% say they play six times a day. Half of the families said they play 2 or 3 times a day, and 10% play one time each day.

This one hits a little too close to home. Akron, once known as the Rubber City due to the production of tires, is about 20 miles north of my home. As the tire trade has moved production to countries where cheaper labor is available, Akron has fallen on somewhat hard times. And as in many cities, crime has moved in. In this case, the crime is dog fighting.
