I’m guessing this Canton, Georgia family will never complain about bad behavior from this puppy!
Ollie, a 6-month old boxer, was acting strange one evening – whining, rubbing against the legs of family members, and going outside then refusing to come back in. Eventually, all of the family members ended up out in the yard, and they could tell Ollie was finally relaxing.
That’s when it dawned on Dad that he had left the gas on in the fireplace. By now, the fire had gone out, but the valve continued to pour gas into the house. Mom says the family does often light candles, which would have had catastrophic results if Ollie hadn’t intervened.
I’m thinking Ollie might find something a little special in his stocking this Christmas.
Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!
P.S. – A wag of the doggies.com tail to Examiner.com for posting a picture with this story, not of Ollie, but of Cash, a Boxer from a local shelter who is looking for a forever home.

A Yellow Lab named Regan found a bag of kittens on the side of a highway in Iowa. Originally there had been four or five kittens stuck in a bag of cat food and left to die on the side of the road, but the bag had already been run over by the time Regan found it. Two kittens were still alive and Regan dragged the bag all the way home and did not stop whining at the door until his owner opened the bag and made the gruesome discovery.
The two kittens, named Tipper and Skipper, were nursed back to health and are now doing fine.
Regan is a hero dog for certain, but I have no words to describe the low-life(s) that dumped the kittens in the first place.
The news this week runs from the magic (yesterday’s salvation of unwanted kittens by a yellow Lab) to the tragic. Right here in my hometown, Canton City Health Department and Stark County Humane Society officials removed 22 dogs from a filthy, boarded up home.
As reported in Canton’s Repository, the dogs were found in a home where rescuers had to slog “through ankle-deep layers of dog feces to rescue 22 canines.”
City Director of Environmental Health Mark Adams said, “It’s probably one of the worst I’ve seen in a long time. One of the most horrific things was three medium-sized dogs crammed into a small dog cage – a pet carrier.”
After the dogs were removed, city workers were pulled out of the house because of health concerns in the filthy – and one would assume quite fragrant – enclosed space. They later cleaned the back and side yards, filling half of a city garbage truck. It is feared that when they get to the inside of the house, they may find dead animals under the filth.
The dogs are being cleaned up and looked after at the Stark County Humane Society, where they appear to be basically in good health.
What is wrong with people???!!!???

Former airport baggage handler Lynn Jones knew there was something wrong with the dog in the carrier. She was supposed to load the dog onto a plane, but when she saw the sad look and his emaciated body, she was certain the poor creature wouldn’t survive the flight to Texas. So she refused to load the dog on the plane, going against her supervisor’s instructions. Ms. Jones was fired as a result of her refusal.
A month after the incident at Reno-Tahoe International Airport, the dog has fully recovered (and has been returned to his neglectful owner!) but Ms. Jones is still jobless despite the fact that her former employers and company executives have praised her actions and “situational awareness”.

Michael Vick has gotten a new dog, even though the judge at his dog-fighting trial three years ago banned him from ever owning one again. If he has the nerve to hurt a beautiful Beagle, I might have to have a little face-to-fist conversation with the man.
