Warrior
Rescue teams work feverishly to dig Warrior from under 1.5 meters of dirt

This photo from the Mdzanada Animal Clinic and IOL News shows rescuers have cleared about about a meter of dirt, revealing the dog’s head after receiving an anonymous tip.

Rescuers have aptly named the ever fighting pooch “Warrior”.

Two men have been arrested yesterday. Warrior is reportedly fine and in good condition.

Bella and Tarra
Bella and Tarra

Dogs love us unconditionally– no matter age, disability, rich or poor.

But, to share a companion 8,000 pounds her senior for eight years truly shows us what dogs, and elephants can teach us.

On October 26 Bella, companion to Tarra, an 8,000 pound elephant in Tennessee, died.  They made world headlines together, and featured on CBS for their amazing ability to share their lives together in food, drink, play and sleep… and in the end, what seems like amazing compassion.

Check out the story of this amazing pair of Beaty and…the Beauty.

Pit Bull Shows Lassie Behavior

When an Atlanta man tried to leave his home one morning for work, he was stopped by a Pit Bull, but it’s not what you think.  This Pit Bull is actually a hero!  It seems the dog had found the man’s wife after a brain aneurysm caused her to fall and fracture her skull. The dog has now won the “Neighbor of the Year” award from the Vintage Pointe Neighborhood Association, the first dog ever to be so honored.  Check out the video from CBS Atlanta.

Until next time,

Good day, and good dog!

Dangers of Flying with Your Dog

NewsNet5 out of Cleveland recently did a story about injuries dogs are experiencing when flying on major airlines.  From 2009 to 2010, the number of injured pets grew by 90% on US-operated airlines.  Although the 55 animals injured in 2010 is still a small number, it is alarming that the number is growing so quickly.  I apologize that I don’t have comparative numbers to see if the total number of animals carried on airlines has also risen, so I don’t know if the percentage is better or worse, but I do know that at least 55 pet families were distraught after they arrived at their destinations.  Many of the dogs that are injured or die in flight are those with short noses such as Pugs and Bulldogs.

I stumbled across this website while I was looking for something else, and as soon as I saw it, I knew I had to draw your attention to it.  Old Dawgs and Pups is a group of Vietnam-era military K-9 handlers who have made a commitment to help out current K-9 teams overseas.
