I had always heard that German Shepherds were smart, but I’m not sure very many dogs could accomplish this!

Saturday Survey: Are You Following the Iditarod?
I’ve posted a few times this week about the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race. I’m interested in your level of interest in the race – I think it’s fascinating to see how these dogs work so hard.

Latest Headlines from the 2010 Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race
Most of the top ten race teams have either arrived or left the Nulato checkpoint, 393 miles from the finish line. With today’s Nome temperature again well below zero (-28 last I checked), I know they’re thinking 393 miles is about 392 miles too long!

Today’s Headlines from the 2010 Iditarod
With brutally cold temperatures (36 below in McGrath), we’ve seen some major changes in the top ten mushers since yesterday.
MUSH! Notes from the 2010 Iditarod
I’m not sure how it got to be March already without my noticing, but this month only means 3 things: NCAA hoops, spring, and of course, The Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race. My son brought home dogsled-related vocabulary words for homework last night, and it reminded me.
How much would you pay for a picture of dog pee?
I kid you not, this article was on the Cleveland news (WKYC) this week.

Is it legal to chain your dog outside?
USA Today recently ran a story about a new law being proposed in Illinois, which would require that any dog tethered outside remain in the owner’s line of sight for the entire time the dog is tied. Other states and municipalities have laws which limit the time a dog is outside or ban the practice altogether.
Regardless of how you feel about the various laws, I think we can all agree that some dogs live a miserable life, never being allowed off of their chains, or not able to access shade or fresh water.
Do you know the law in your area? Check out this site for a listing of what’s up where.
Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!
Do dogs have 9 lives, too?
A fantastic story from the UK about a flying Springer Spaniel named Poppy.
This’n’that from the world of dog news
I was so wrapped up in the Westminster Show last week, I now have lots of dog-related news to catch you up on. So, here’s a wrap-up of what popped into my e-mail over the past week or so.
Pedigree Animal Foundation
Congratulations to the Pedigree Animal Foundation. Due to their campaign during the Westminster Kennel Club show, they collected over $205,000 from viewers to be donated in support of dog adoption. As of today, that total is up over $300,000
The Pedigree Corporation will match at least the donations made during the show (I’m not sure about other donations), so selected adoption organizations will receive a total of over $410,000!
If you want to help out, go to DogsRule.com, where you can learn about several ways to contribute. Even if you just click on the link to become a Facebook fan, you will trigger a donation of 1 bowl of dog food to a shelter. No cost to you, and a world of help for dogs!
Thanks, Pedigree!
Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!
