When Samantha Juskiw and Paige Hoffman saw a police K-9 demonstration at a park near their home, they decided to hold some fundraisers to buy the dogs new kevlar vests, as the ones they were wearing were in need of replacement. A kind, but not truly unique gesture, until you realize that these good Samaritans are only in 7th grade!

The American Kennel Club has recently released its list of the breeds most registered with them in 2009. Although purebred guardians are under no obligation to register their dogs, and mixed-breed families aren’t allowed to register, this list is used as one indication of the popularity of the various breeds.

Although they have not currently heard of any illnesses linked to these treats, there is a possibility of humans getting sick if they handle the snacks.
The affected Merrick Beef Filet Squares for dogs have a “best buy” label of 111911. The agency recommends that consumers who are unable to determine the “best by” date discontinue use of the product.
Products suspected of being contaminated should be discarded in a secure trash can with a lid.
