One more…I couldn’t resist

From Pet Portrait Artist BZ Tat
From Pet Portrait Artist BZ Tat

I just found this on Facebook. Artist BZTat, who has volunteered to paint a portrait of Jethro for the Davis family, sat with me at the funeral today. She told me she had a great photo of a handler canoodling with his dog in the parking lot. She apparently took it home and “art-i-fied” it. Beautiful!

Her caption: My artistic rendering of a Parma PD officer and his K-9 partner Tyrone in a poignant moment of bonding at the memorial for fallen K-9 officer Jethro. The human animal bond is so strong and intense between man and beast in the K-9 corps. Canton loves it’s canine heroes and their human handlers. We are so thankful for both. We are also thankful for the heroes that patrol cities beyond Canton who came to pay respects today. Thank you all for your service. #RIPJethro #canineheroes #herodog #jethro #bztatart

Canton K-9 Jethro

Jethro

I ran into Jethro and his handler while I was at the car wash yesterday. Jethro is an officer with the Canton (Ohio) Police Department, trained for patrol and for narcotics detection.

He’s very focused, but not really on the camera. His handler was standing behind me with his Kong toy.

Thanks to both of them for their service to the city I call home.

My Niece’s Houseguests

Alli Dog VacayDo you remember a few weeks ago when I said my niece, Allison, had signed up to be a dog-sitter on DogVacay? She’s in the Cincinnati, Ohio area, if any of you are looking for a sitter.

After a few initial hiccups (one of her dogs had a seizure while she was giving a prospective client a tour), she is apparently doing quite well. This is her menagerie for this week. Although four of them live there, it still looks like a good-sized crowd.

She also does grooming and makes accessories such as neckties and bows for dogs. She’s very talented, and I’m proud to say she’s family!

Oh, and did I mention what a great photographer she is? Apparently, she got their attention with a spoonful of peanut butter!

Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!

Have dog & camera; will travel

Theron TurkeyWelcome to the wonderful world of Theron Humphrey’s pictures. The photographer takes his Coonhound, Maddie, along on his travels, and snaps candid photos. I’ve only posted one here, but it’s worth seeing the whole collection.

CNN carries the story of how Theron adopted Maddie at a shelter in Georgia, then traveled all 50 states with her, taking pictures of her balancing on things. The project, called “This Wild Idea”, covered 65,000 miles in 365 days.

Now, The Today Show reports they are touring in support of Theron’s new project, “Why We Rescue”, featuring photos and interviews with people who have adopted from shelters.

Check out all of his projects, and buy the first book, Maddie on Things: A Super Serious Project About Dogs and Physics on Amazon.

I wanna go on the next trip!

Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!
