For those of you who might be new to the dog show world, here’s an overview of the big 2019 Westminster Kennel Club Show.
Although the main event is Monday and Tuesday nights, there were some preliminaries on Saturday. The AKC convenes Meet the Breeds to allow people to get up close and personal with examples of each breed. Each breed group sets up a booth, and their members take turns showing off their dogs and answering questions from the public. The Masters Agility competition also takes place on Saturday. The Masters Obedience Championship takes place on Monday, concurrently with the breed judging. Continue reading Westminster 2019: How It All Works→
Sorry for the lateness of this post. I usually try to post the dog show winners as soon as they happen, but this year I was the hostess for Thanksgiving, so I had to DVR the show. Without further ado, here are the Group Winners:
Terrier: Wire Fox Terrier
Hound: Whippet
Toy: Cavalier King Charles Spaniel
Working: Doberman Pinscher
Sporting: Chesapeake Bay Retriever
Non-Sporting: Lhasa Apso
Herding: Pembroke Welsh Corgi
The American Kennel Club (AKC®), the world’s largest dog registry, leading industry authority and advocate for dogs, is proud to announce the launch of the AKC Junior Mentor Program.
The goals of the AKC Junior Mentor Program are to provide Juniors just entering the sport or those looking to sharpen their skills (mentees) with a positive role model and friend who will help them on their journey to become an accomplished Junior; and, to provide experienced Juniors (mentors) the opportunity to improve their own skills while sharing their experiences. Mentors will provide advice and support in topics such as handling, grooming, proper dress and behavior, sportsmanship and more. Participating in the Junior Mentor Program as a mentor or mentee counts toward the number of activities required to become a Junior Ambassador, a program that recognizes Juniors for being active in the sport. In case you missed it (as I did), you can still see the Rescue Dog Show on the Hallmark Channel’s website or on their app. Categories included such characteristics as Best in Snoring, Best in Underbite, Best in Wiggle Butt, and Best in Kissing.
No spoilers here, but it’s an event you don’t want to miss!
There was a bit of a kerfuffle after the Bichon Frise won Westminster Tuesday night. Did you agree with the judge’s pick or would you have chosen a different dog?
