And the broadcast has begun. Hosted by the Kennel Club of Philadelphia, emceed by David Frei and John O’Hurley, and sponsored by Purina, the 2017 National Dog Show broadcast has begun on NBC.
If you can’t tune in on TV, check back here often for updates when each group winner is announced, as well as for the Best in Show winner.
Preview of AKC National Championship Presented by Royal Canin
It must be “write about dog shows” day. Just after my earlier post, I received this in my in-box from the American Kennel Club.
We are excited to announce that in its 17th year, the AKC National Championship presented by Royal Canin has again drawn the largest entry in the history of the event! Dogs from 50 States and 44 Countries will compete for Best in Show this December. 4,803 dogs are entered this year with more than 1,200 puppies entered to compete in the all-new inaugural AKC/Royal Canin National All-Breed Puppy and Junior Stakes.
I attended this show last year and had a wonderful time. It’s neat to immerse yourself in an all dog all the time kind of world for a weekend.

DVR Alert: National Dog Show
The big National Dog Show will be broadcast, as always, right after the Macy’s Parade on Thanksgiving. If your television will be stubbornly stuck on football all day, check in here. Since my family celebrated early this year, I’ll be able to watch the show beginning to end and will bring you all the highlights live. (Or as live as I can do for a taped television show!)

Westminster Winner, Rumor, Gives Birth to Eight Puppies!
Westminster Kennel Club is pleased to announce the birth of eight puppies to 2017 big show winner Rumor, the German Shepherd.
Channel 3000 in Madison, Wisconsin has video of the puppies, but wouldn’t let me share it. You can view it on their site.
Owner/Handler Kent Boyles says Rumor is being a great mother to her four baby girls and four baby boys, born in August. Rumor was bred to two dogs, so DNA testing will be required to determine the paternal side of each puppy’s bloodline.
No decision yet on who will raise the pups once they leave Boyles’ Kenlynn German Sheperds kennel, or what their show potential may be.

Entries Now Open for AKC National Championship Presented by Royal Canin
For all you crazy show dog people out there (and I’m right there with you!), this was in my mail bag today. I attended last year and had a blast!
Entries are now open for the 2017 AKC National Championship Presented by Royal Canin, which returns to Orlando’s Orange County Convention Center (OCCC) North/South Concourse this December 16 and 17. Entries are also open for the inaugural AKC Royal Canin National All-Breed Puppy and Junior Stakes, which will take place on December 15 at the OCCC. Both premium lists can be found at www.akc.org. I’ve been seeing commercials today for a new series on Animal Planet called Rescue Dog to Super Dog. The premiere is scheduled for Saturday, August 12th at 10 pm Eastern.
