The top five dogs in each breed received an invitation to compete in this prestigious event. In addition, the agility competition for junior handlers was held for the tenth year.

Coverage of agility is available at AKC.tv.

Competitions were held December 11-13, 2020 in conjunction with the AKC National Championship Presented by Royal Canin at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, FL.

If you’re not familiar with rally, think of it as any team sport: You and your dog navigate a course, side-by-side, as you steer him through a course of 10-20 different signs. Each of these signs provides instructions regarding the next skill that is to be performed. The dog and handler move continuously throughout the course with the dog under control at the handler’s left side. There is a clear sense of teamwork between the dog and handler both during and between the numbered signs. Although each performance is timed, having a good race time is not the goal; it’s all about working as a team while performing the skills, with the dog under control. Who Won the AKC National Championship Presented by Royal Canin?

A closely held secret! I can’t reveal the winners yet because it hasn’t been televised yet, and I don’t want to be a spoiler.

If you absolutely need your dog show fix, there are highlights available on AKC.TV and on the ESPN app. There are also features on rally, obedience, and (my favorite) agility available, as well as the All-Breed Puppy and Junior Stakes.

Otherwise, you’ll have to wait with the rest of us to see it in a three-hour special on ABC on Sunday, January 17, 2021 at 2 p.m. ET, which I will be live-blogging. as usual.

Sorry! (Not sorry)

Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!

I always take an interest in who checks out my posts, and when I post about dog shows, there’s usually a huge following, but some of the groups do better than others. I will share with you on Sunday how many people looked at each group winner post from Thanksgiving’s National Dog Show, but for today, please tell me which group is your favorite. (I’ve not made it a secret that I love those hounds! But I will admit my absolute favorite breed is the Vizsla, from the sporting group.)
