If your dog is like mine, he or she will stand still for hours on end, as long as you keep rubbing on the ears. Why do they love it so much? Turns out that stimulating the nerves in a dog’s ears results in endorphins being released throughout their body. Endorphins are those feel good hormones that get released in humans when we are in love or are eating chocolate. They relax us and gives us a natural high. No wonder dogs like it so much!

I posted an article last Sunday about a woman who feels a strong relationship between God as portrayed in the Bible and dogs, saying she often substitutes the word “dog” for “God” to create daily Dog-Votionals. The article was fascinating to read.

Kind of an interesting article in American Magazine, showing how the author (Emily Kahm) believes that having a dog in the family makes her a better Catholic. She makes the argument that if you replace the word “God” in Scripture with “dog”, you make what she terms “dogvotionals” which can help you learn a lot about life. This was a new one on me! I flew into Portland, Maine this week for a training conference, and as I was walking through the airport, I found this room right next to the regular restrooms. A place for your dog to relieve him or herself. I know the picture’s not great, so this is a small area of fake grass with a plastic fire hydrant in the middle of it. The rest of the (relatively large, I thought) room is empty, except for a sink and a poop bag dispenser.
I can’t figure out if Portland gets that many dog visitors or if it’s just really, really cold and inhospitable for so many months during the winter that they added this indoor convenience.
