October is National Adopt a Rescue Dog Month

MY favorite rescue dog: Kayla
The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) has designated October as National Adopt a Rescue Dog Month.  The purpose of having a national observance is to bring attention to the plight of homeless animals in every community and the unfortunate fact that only 20 to 30 percent of cats and dogs are adopted from shelters and rescue groups. I love reading stories about successful dog adoptions, especially when they involve veterans. Pets for Patriots reports that Coast Guard vet Al was suffering from depression when he saw a news story about the Pets for Patriots program that matches shelter dogs with veterans. The organization also with the adoption fee and veterinary expenses.
