Saturday Survey: Would You Adopt a Disabled Dog

I posted earlier this week about Rocky, a disabled and retired military war dog who needed to be adopted.  Camp Pendleton was apparently overrun with requests to adopt the distinguished 3-tour veteran of Iraq.

I’ve personally never taken in a differently-abled dog (my kids are enough of a handful!)  Would you adopt a dog with special needs?  Keep in mind these are the dogs most often euthanized when they wind up in shelters.

Shelter Sunday: SafePlace Pets / Colorado Springs, CO

Meet Snuggy!  Snuggy is currently living in a foster home in Colorado Springs, CO.  SafePlace Pets has a rather unique mission, serving not only pets, but people too.  They take in pets whose parents can no longer keep them due to a terminal illness.  What a relief it would be if you found yourself coping with your own impending death and along comes an organization who can take at least one worry off your mind.

Tuesday Top Twelve: Dog Welfare Charities

I posted yesterday about the great work being done by the PetFinder.com Foundation, and it struck me that people might like to have some options that are more local or that are focused on an area other homelessness when they decide where they may donate.

Petfinder.com Foundation Benefits Local Shelter and Rescue Organizations

Woukdn’t you like to help make all shelter dogs this happy?

If you read this blog on Sundays, you know I always feature a homeless pet from PetFinder’s Shelter Center, in hopes of finding a home by providing publicity for at least one animal a week.  From my point of view, PetFinder provides a very valuable service simply by providing a central repository where people can go to search for adoptable pets no matter where they live.  What I didn’t know is that PetFinder also has a non-profit foundation that provides grants and other support to local shelters and rescue organizations to help them become more sustainable.
