We’re Havin’ A Heat Wave

The weatherman said there are 106 million people in the US under a heat advisory today. I’m not sure how many dogs live with those 106 million people, but thought this might be a good time to review some things about dogs and heat.

If at all possible, let your dog stay indoors. If s/he MUST be outside, provide multiple sources of water in case they knock over a bowl or three. Provide shade, not just in a dog house, but somewhere they can catch a breeze if the wind happens to blow. Continue reading We’re Havin’ A Heat Wave

From the USPS: More than 5,800 postal employees were attacked by dogs in the United States in 2020. From nips and bites to vicious attacks, aggressive dog behavior poses a serious threat to postal employees and the general public. To highlight the enormity of this serious issue, the U.S. Postal Service is providing the public with information on the do’s and don’ts of responsible dog ownership.

“Raising awareness about dog bite prevention and how to protect our letter carriers as we deliver the mail is paramount,” said USPS Acting Employee Safety and Health Awareness Manager Jamie Seavello. “Dogs are instinctive animals that may act to protect their turf and that why’s it’s important to inform the public about this campaign.” Continue reading Dog Bites Mailman

What a great idea! Basil, the handsome Beagle pictured here, assists people while planning their loved ones’ funerals and mourning their losses.

Basil works at the Clive Pugh Funeral Home in Shrewsbury, UK.

I’m wondering if there are other funeral homes who have therapy dogs? Seems like an idea who’s time has come.

From the Clive Pugh Twitter page: Continue reading Basil, the Funeral Therapy Dog

Resistance Was Futile

It was bound to happen in a home with five cats. They have taken over the blog in honor of International Cat Day.

Pictured are Gracie (on the dresser), Pumpkin (on the stack of purple towels), Charlie (brown swirls), Robin (grey, on bed), and Lucy, who was a pregnant foster. Lucy has since gone on to a forever home, as have all of her kittens. Batman, my other permanent resident, was out saving Gotham at picture time. Note that they are all ignoring me because they’re cats.

Happy happy from my clowder to yours.

Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!

Are You Ready For Some Football?

HOF 1
K-9 Gradje

If you’re not a regular reader, you might not know I live in Canton, Ohio, home of the Professional Football Hall of Fame. It’s so exciting every year to welcome the new and old enshrinees and host the first game of the pre-season.

These K-9 teams from Canton and surrounding areas have been at the stadium since early this morning, and most will work a minimum of 60 – 80 hours over the course of the week-long celebration.
