Meet Pete! This Treeing Walker Coonhound mix is interested in a home without cats, children, or other dogs. Here’s what he has to say for himself:
Howdy there folks, my name is Pete! I am a 6 year old gent from the south! I am very friendly and quite an energetic guy who would love to find a home with a big yard and people who will love me forever! I am quite comical, if I do say so myself. I am sure that I will keep you laughing with my antics just as I do for my friends here at the Sanctuary. Continue reading Shelter Sunday: Pete / Senior Dog Sanctuary of Maryland / Severn, MD→
Last year, Busch released its first-ever product made not for fans, but for its fan’s dogs: Busch Dog Brew. The alcohol-free, bone broth brew provides owners with the perfect opportunity to crack a cold one with their favorite canine companion, and the initial response from Busch lovers was overwhelming, with the first batch selling out in just 24-hours. This year, as Busch Dog Brew expands, it’s also looking to expand its Senior Leadership Team to include a four-legged member with a discerning palate — a Chief Tasting Officer (CTO). There’s no such thing as “too early” for teaching fire safety.
That’s why Koorsen Fire and Security is the primary sponsor of the Kasey Program, which takes an entertaining approach to bringing life-saving skills to a wide range of audiences, including community events, nursing homes, and students from preschool to grade 6.
Program founder and professional firefighter Jeff Owens sings and plays guitar while Kasey, a black Labrador, demonstrates fire safety tips. It’s a memorable and fun way to bring critical information to children.
Jeff started the Kasey Program, a non-profit program, in 1995 and each year performs with Kasey approximately 400 times. The program was started as a way to teach children about fire & life safety. Jeff is a retired career firefighter/paramedic after more than 31 years of service and felt a strong desire to have a positive impact on teaching our children their fire & life safety skills. When trying to compare your dog’s age to human age, it’s one year in a dog’s life equals seven human years, right? Not so fast there, you!
The American Veterinary Medical Association breaks it down a little differently. They say at the end of a dog’s first year of life, s/he is the equivalent of a human teenager, about 15 years. In the second year, growth and development slows down a bit, adding about nine human years to take your dog to early adulthood, about the equivalent of a 24-year old person. Beyond that, every calendar year adds about five human years’ worth of aging. Continue reading How Old Is Your Dog?→
Earlier in the week, I posted a graphic showing the Canine Ladder of Aggression. Some of the signs are pretty subtle, until you know what you’re looking for. The lowest level signs, blinking / yawning / licking the nose, can also be signs of anxiety, so it doesn’t necessarily mean you have an aggressive dog. The problem is that some dogs become aggressive when they are nervous.
My neighbor’s dog escaped last night and came to visit. Peered right in my front window. You better believe I had to go out and pet him for awhile before I took him home.
Hoping you have a great weekend with lots of dogs to pet.
Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!
