From WEWS in Cleveland: Meet Sir Darius Brown. This handsome 13-year old makes bow ties to help animals get adopted from shelters.

Born with a fine motor delay, Sir Darius needed a project to help him catch up. His mom, a hairdresser, enlisted his help to make hair bows, but soon realized he needed something more. She gave him the supplies to make bow ties, at first for himself, then for shelter animals who arrived in New Jersey from the south after Hurricanes Irma and Harvey. Power to the Puppies

As a former power company employee (not at Georgia Power), I really liked this story from WRDW in Georgia.

Dwayne and Shane, two linemen working for Georgia Power in Gainesville, GA, were kind enough to rescue three puppies from a dumpster in the cold rain last week. The puppies were severely underweight, with their ribs showing, and were very happy to find warmth at the Humane Society of NE Georgia.

Kudos to the men for taking the time to help.

Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!

RIP Swagger, You Dawg

If you follow the Cleveland Browns at all, you know they are nicknamed “the Dawgs” and you’re aware their unofficial mascot is a Bullmastiff named Swagger. We’re sad to report he passed away suddenly this month. Handler Justin McLaughlin says the dog had been battling cancer, but his sudden death following a stroke was not expected.

Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!

Yukon Quest Follow-up

I just realized I never let you know that the Yukon Quest is officially over.

The Yukon News reports that Alaskan musher Olivia Webster is the 2020 Yukon Quest’s red lantern, crossing the finish line in Whitehorse at approximately 8 p.m. on Feb. 15. The rookie is the granddaughter of Leroy Shank, one of the founders of the Yukon Quest, who was at the finish line to show his support.

The “red lantern” indicates the last musher to cross the finish line. Until that team comes in, a red lantern remains lit at the finish line to guide the mushers home.

Congratulations to all who participated.

Next up: the granddaddy of them all: the Iditarod! It begins with a ceremonial start on March 7th, followed by the real start on March 8th. I can’t wait!

Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!
