Rich: One of the Successes at the Stark County Dog Warden’s Office
At one of this week’s events for Doggone North Canton, I was privileged to meet Rich, a recent success story from the Stark County Dog Warden’s Office. Here’s his story, as told on their Facebook page:
Rich- cage 32
Picked up as a stray on 8/2. Available on 8/6. Normally we don’t say a dog is lucky to have been brought to the pound, but with Rich, we would say this was his lucky day. Rich could hardly move around because of his matted, filthy, overgrown hair. He was about 2lbs lighter after his fur was shaved off, just to give you an idea on the amount of fur this dog was carrying. We couldn’t even tell where his ears were, the mats were so long and thick. [There were actually maggots in the mats.] Needless to say this dog feels like a new dog! It was just priceless to see him walking without being in pain! He pranced around outside like a new dog! Rich is already neutered, and is now waiting for a caring, loving family, to give him a forever home, he so deserves it!!!
$86.00 fee includes OH license, DA2PP, Bordetella vaccine, Hw testing, Worming and spay/neuter. Flea treatment will be provided if fleas are noticed. All dogs will be spayed/neutered before leaving the pound unless other arrangements are made to have your dog fixed elsewhere and approved by the warden. Microchipping is available for an additional $ 20.00 and an e-collar may be purchased for $ 10.00. Because most of our dogs were picked up as strays, we have no knowledge of any behavior or health issues. Stray dogs are held for 72 hours before being placed for adoption. We welcome and encourage the crossposting of our dog’s pictures to increase adoptions.
He looks great today, and is ready for adoption. Rich is probably 6 – 7 years old and has a little arthritis, but is still frisky and ready for action! He will likely need a little dental work.
Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!

Big Happenings at the Stark County Dog Warden’s Office
There’s nothing like being in a room full of dog lovers. That was the scene at the North Canton Public Library yesterday morning when Stark County Dog Warden Jon Barber spoke to a group of concerned residents about changes he’s made over the past year at the Dog Warden’s Office and Shelter. Even the name is new. It used to be the pound.
This event was another in the week-long series called Doggone North Canton, presented by Pawsitive Ohio.
Why should you read on if you’re not in Stark County? Many of the lessons learned here can be applied to your location, making sure more dogs are treated humanely and increasing adoption rates at all facilities.
