Last week, I featured the new breeds being shown at this week’s AKC National Championship presented by Royal Canin. There are also dogs being shown who have not yet been placed in one of the traditional seven breed groups (Toy, Terrier, Working, Sporting, Non-Sporting, Herding, and Hound). These dogs are in a group known as the Miscellaneous Group. Continue reading Breeds You Don’t See Everyday

New AKC Breed: The American Hairless Terrier
The American Hairless Terrier was added to the AKC Terrier Group in early 2016. The American Hairless Terrier Club of America describes the breed as A natural variation of the Rat Terrier, this completely hairless dog (some may have eyebrows and whiskers) is a lively, intelligent and friendly companion that is often the perfect answer for those with allergies. Further, they say The AHT is quite a bit different from most commonly known hairless breeds (such as Chinese Crested, Xolo, etc.). The AHT does NOT have hair anywhere on the body (such as head, feet, tail) and should not have any excess body hair. Continue reading New AKC Breed: The American Hairless Terrier

The Dog Lady Has a Secret Santa!
I mentioned last week that I really wanted to go to the AKC National Championships in Florida on December 17th and 18th, but didn’t think I could swing it financially.
Turns out, I have a Secret Santa who offered to pay for the whole trip if I would blog about it while I’m there!
That’s a deal I just couldn’t turn down, so pay attention next weekend for coverage of agility, obedience, diving dogs, and of course, the all-breed dog show.
I couldn’t be happier! Thanks, Santa! (Yes, Virginia, he really does exist.)
