Nearly $2 million fine imposed in Mississippi dog fighting case
The Mississippi Link reported recently that a federal judge has ordered the participants in a 2013 multi-state dog fighting operation to pay restitution in the amount of nearly $2 million.
Donnie Anderson, who staged fights near Auburn, Alabama, and was described by the judge as the “kingpin” of the conspiracy, was ordered to pay $580,000. He is serving 8 years in prison, four times longer than Michael Vick served.

Wounded Dog’s Care Paid for by Wounded Veteran
WCBD-TV: News, Weather, and Sports for Charleston, SC
When Dara, a 6-month old hound mix, was shot seven times and left for dead, she crawled under a house in Hollywood, SC to lick her wounds.
She was found by authorities and taken to a veterinarian, but the cost of her care was likely to be high.
Enter Vincent Bertolini, a Vietnam Vet who remembers how scary it is to be injured and alone. He donated $1,000 to pay for her care, and was recently introduced to the puppy he helped to save. The video above, from Channel 2 in Charleston, tells the sweet story.
Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!

Justin Bieber’s Dog Now in the News
It’s not enough that pop superstar Justin Bieber is making news every other day now that his life has gone off the rails, now his dad (Jeremy Bieber) and his dog, a Bulldog named Karma, are making headlines. His father has been accused of throwing the kid’s dog from a second floor balcony.
Dad Jeremy apparently was incensed when the dog allegedly bit his younger son, Jackson. At some point following this incident, Justin may have given up the dog to a trainer. (One story has the trainer stealing the dog.)
At any rate, it’s turning into a real “he said / he said” incident, not the first for Bieber, who has had other animal-related problems in the past. One involved a monkey who had not had the proper shots and was seized by German authorities; the other involved his throwing a hamster at a fan.
You can’t make this stuff up, folks!
Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!
Akron Dog-Fighting Ring Busted
This one hits a little too close to home. Akron, once known as the Rubber City due to the production of tires, is about 20 miles north of my home. As the tire trade has moved production to countries where cheaper labor is available, Akron has fallen on somewhat hard times. And as in many cities, crime has moved in. In this case, the crime is dog fighting.

On my soapbox again about dogs left in hot cars
It’s a little early in the year for this, but unfortunately, it has happened again: someone left a dog in the car, and the poor animal died from the heat. Really? This still happens? Even after all of the publicity that results each time this happens?

Saved from the dumpster
From KSAT 12 in San Antonio: Quick thinking by a couple of bystanders saved this cute Shepherd mix puppy from certain death at the bottom of a dumpster. When they saw a man and a woman throw the puppy, all four legs duct-taped together, into a dumpster, the witnesses acted quickly to rescue the dog.
He is now available for adoption at the San Antonio Humane Society, apparently having suffered no ill-effects from the time he spent at the hands of these monsters.
Authorities are looking for the “people” who disposed of the dog so cruelly.
Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!
