My Sister’s Dog Bite
It took me a long time to decide whether or not to write this. But it is legitimate news, so I’ll share. My sister works in a boarding facility for dogs in Virginia. When she was cleaning a cage last week, she forgot to put the dog’s bedding back inside, and as she opened the cage to do so, the dog was being brought back in from an outdoor run. Denver’s KUSA-TV morning news anchor Kyle Dyer was bitten a few weeks ago by an Argentine Mastiff while talking to the firefighter who had pulled the dog from an icy lake. Good news! After two surgeries and a total of 90 stitches, she’s doing much better now. Check out the whole story from The Today Show.

I had always heard that German Shepherds were smart, but I’m not sure very many dogs could accomplish this!
Dog Bite Prevention Program
At its annual convention in New Orleans this month, the American Veterinary Medical Association announced a new program aimed at reducing dog bites among children aged 3 – 6. Children younger than three should never be left alone with any dog, the group is quick to point out.
According to Dr. Ilana Reisner of the University of Pennsylvania, dog bites happen when people don’t understand dog behavior. “Children are more likely to get bitten by dogs because of the way they interact with dogs.” Continue reading Dog Bite Prevention Program
