Sad news from the Idatirod trail. Dallas Mackey has lost a 2nd dog. A 3-year-old male named Stiffy died suddenly at about 5:15 p.m. Friday on the trail between Elim and White Mountain. Another 3-year-old Mackey dog, Wyatt, who died between Tanana and Ruby. Both dogs will be necropsied to determine the causes of death.

Iditarod 2015: Final Results Are In!
Here’s how they finished in the Last Great Race on Earth:
1. Dallas Seavey, with a total race time of 8 days, 18 hours, 13 minutes, 6 seconds.
2. Mitch Seavey, with a time of 8 days, 22 hours, 22 minutes, 56 seconds.
3. Aaron Burmeister, 8 days, 23 hours, 47 minutes, 31 seconds.
4. Jessie Royer, 9 days, 1 hour, 51 minutes, 9 seconds.
5. Aliy Zirkle, 9 days, 4 hours, 44 minutes, 25 seconds.
There are still about 45 racers on the course, with 22 having finished by 8:36 this morning.
Congratulations to all of the contenders.

Iditarod Update As Of 3/15/15 @ 6:40 AM
The top five mushers have now completed 2/3’s of the World’s Last Great Race. All have completed both of their required layovers, so it’s all out for the next 300 miles to the finish line. Here’s the leaderboard, showing the times they left the checkpoint at Kaltag:

Iditarod 2015: Update as of 3/13 @ 9:42
All five of the top mushers are now safely into the checkpoint at Huslia, which is the half-way point for this year’s race. They have completed 478 of the 979 miles. Looks like the leader, Burmeister, is finally taking his required 8-hour layover, and Dallas Seavey & Thomas Waerner may be starting their 24-hour rest period.

These top five mushers have all completed their 8-hour layover, with the exception of Burmeister.
Have you ever considered how the race comes together each year? The relatively small Iditarod Race Committee wouldn’t be able to do everything without the help of between 1,000 and 1,500 volunteers.

Iditarod 2015 Update as of March 12, 2015 at 10:34 / Dropped Dogs
Today’s race activity is centered around the Galena checkpoint. In first place, Aaron Burmeister left Galena at 6:26 this morning, followed by Dallas Seavey at 8:48. In third place, Jeff King arrived at Galena at 4:37 this morning, followed by Aliy Zirkle at 5:54 and Martin Buser at 7:07. Seavey, King, and Buser have all completed their required 8-hour layover.

We have a new leader! All five of the top mushers are currently out of the checkpoint at Tanana, but have not yet arrived at Ruby, which is a 119 mile trek. The time shown next to each musher’s name is the time they left Tanana last night.

Iditarod 2015: Update 3/10/15 @ 3:26 pm / List of Checkpoints
Current Top 5 Standings, as of 3:26 pm on March 10th.
Martin Buser has moved into the lead, the first musher to arrive in Tanana at 3:15.
The next five teams are still between Manley Hot Springs and Tanana. In second place, Peter Kaiser left Manley Hot Springs at 7:58 this morning, followed by Mitch Seavey at 8:38, Jessie Royer at 8:55, and Hugh Neff at 9:17.
