There’s a YouTube video posted from National Geographic here. It’s so tender! Seems this orangutan met a hound dog while out on a walk, and they fell absolutely in love. (Get your mind out of the gutter – it’s sweet!)
I received an e-mail from the good people at Nasonex today.
“I wanted to let you know that the name chosen for Ronnie’s four-legged friend is now posted at “Don’t Blow It” (www.dontblowit.com). As a reminder, for every new person that plays the game, we’re planting a low-allergenic tree through American Forests.”
So, for those of you who were wondering, make sure to check it out!
According to a recent story in the Canton Repository, kudos are due to Jada, a mixed breed who lives here in Canton with Tabitha Billings. Seems an intruder broke into their home and threatened Tabitha and her 3-year old son with a gun.
Yesterday, my partner dropped a dog cookie. You guessed it – the dogs went after the cookie and ended up mistaking Debbie’s toe for the treat. She has a nasty infection and had to go to the ER last night. On the way home, we stopped to pick up her antibiotics, and found this car in the parking lot:
Even though most of us, as responsible pet guardians, have spayed or neutered our dogs, effectively making them “its”, we have been struggling here at doggies.com with how to refer to animals without offending either gender. Did you ever ask someone “What’s his name?” or “How old is he?”, only to have the person look down his nose and say “SHE is whatever…”
We definitely don’t want to offend, so, I’ve been asked to run a poll to see what you think. How should we be gender-inclusive on the blog, as well as in our articles and other features?
Today, I received a review copy of Jon Franklin’s new book, “The Wolf in the Parlor: The Eternal Connection Between Humans and Dogs.” I didn’t have a chance to start reading it yet, but thought you might be interested in the jacket blurb.
Several news sources today had articles about the inappropriateness of keeping your dog chained outside.
Think about it: if you are using your dog as a guard for your home, how can he protect anything if he can’t get loose from the tree to which you have him tethered? And if your dog is a companion for your family, how much joy does he bring you (and how much joy does he have in his life) if he’s constantly outside?
Yes, I know it’s a little early for Christmas, but my favorite catalog of all time arrived at my house today, so I had to make this list for you. In addition to having the funniest T-shirts I’ve ever seen (“Just be happy I’m not a twin” and “Of course I’m right, I’m Italian” and “Careful or you’ll end up in my novel”), What On Earth has a whole section of dog-related gifts. So, here’s the cream of the crop.
