From Russia, With Love

The Daily Star and Time Magazine are reporting that, in a show of solidarity, Russia is offering to send an Alsatian puppy to France to continue the important anti-terrorism work in which Diesel was involved. The two-month old puppy is named Dobrynya, after Russian folk hero Dobrynya Nikitich who is known for strength and courage.

Paris Stand-off: Hero Dog

Diesel

French newspaper Le Figaro is reporting that after the terrorists set off several grenades in the stand-off at the apartment on the outskirts of Paris last night, police sent a dog in because they didn’t know if the terrorists were still alive, or what to do next. The answer was given in a rather gruesome way – the terrorists killed the dog.

This makes me hate them even more.

I’ll look for more info to see if I can get the dog’s name. I believe s/he was assigned to the RAID unit, a specialized force kind of like a SWAT team here in the US.

Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!

UPDATE: The French police Twitter feed says this: ”Diesel, a seven-year-old Belgian Shepherd, a female assault dog … Was killed by terrorists during the operation.”

If you look at the topics trending in France on Twitter, you’ll see #JeSuisChien, which means “I am dog.”

I have seen, but not verified, that Diesel pushed the female bomber down the stairs before she detonated herself, saving who knows how many lives.

RIP Diesel. Thank you for your service. Our condolences to the RAID unit on their loss.

(Please note: I don’t know whether or not the dog in the picture is Diesel; however, this is the pic that is being tweeted & re-tweeted and it is featured in most of the news stories about this.)
