One of the reasons I like to point out fundraisers being held to benefit local shelters is that when there is an innovative way to raise funds, maybe other shelters can benefit by stealing the idea. Check out what One of a Kind Pet Rescue in Akron, Ohio is doing in the next few weeks. I especially like the line “They’ve got to eat and so do we…so let’s do it together.”

The Dogs are Swimming in Charleston
From the Charleston Daily Mail: An event is being held on Labor Day to raise money for the Putnam Animal Relief Fund to build a new shelter in Putnam County.
Dogs are invited to swim from 6 to 8 p.m. Labor Day at Valley Park Wave Pool. Donations will be accepted at the door toward building the new shelter.
On a related note (and I have to include this because it concerns my employer, American Electric Power): There will be a softball game at 6 p.m. Sept. 23 at Valley Park in Hurricane. It will pit the Putnam Animal Relief Center Pounders against the AEP John Amos Plant Scrubbers. The teams pay to play, and donations will be accepted from spectators.
For more information on either event, call Karen Haynes at 304-757-7584.
Until next time,
Good day, and good dog!
