A short history lesson for the American readers: The Canadians actually celebrated the first Thanksgiving celebration in North America in 1578 – a full 43 years before the Pilgrims celebrated at the Plymouth Rock colony in 1621. The Canadian celebration happened when explorer Martin Frobisher returned to Canada after his 3rd try at finding the Northwest Passage.

While fireworks and food are a major part of Independence Day festivities, they may not be much fun for your dog. With all of the loud noises and disruption in his routine, your four-legged friend could end up getting sick – or worse, lost.
